Why Natural Fibres Matter During Recovery

Why Natural Fibres Matter During Recovery

I created Hank & Hera out of a personal need—because when I was navigating recovery myself, I couldn't find sleepwear that felt both beautiful and functional. Everything was too synthetic, too scratchy, or simply not made with care. The fabrics felt clinical or uncomfortable. The silhouettes didn't work for my changing body. And in those moments, I needed softness more than ever.

Whether you're healing from surgery, navigating postpartum, undergoing treatment, or simply recovering from burnout, what you wear next to your skin matters.

Why Cotton and Linen Work for Healing

Natural fibres like cotton and linen do more than feel good—they support your body's natural ability to rest and recover.

They're breathable. That means they don't trap heat or sweat, which is especially important when your body is inflamed or regulating hormones.

They're non-reactive. They won't cause rashes, itchiness, or friction—something you quickly notice when your skin is tender.

They're fluid. They move gently, without clinging or pulling, and allow for ease of dressing, undressing, and rest.

These qualities are essential in recovery. But they're rarely prioritised in traditional sleepwear.

What I Recommend for Recovery

If you're shopping for yourself—or someone else—during a time of transition or tenderness, here are a few styles I deeply believe in:

The Kareena Nightgown features a soft structure and long sleeves, providing enough ease to feel unrestrictive yet polished. The button-free design means there's nothing to press against your skin, and the cut allows for movement without fuss. While the cotton styles have become customer favourites, it's truly something special in premium linen.

The Celeste Nightgown is a beautiful option when you want to feel like yourself again. The neckline, the gentle frill, the way it falls around the body—it brings a sense of quiet confidence without ever trying too hard.

Both are made from natural cotton, and both are pieces I would have appreciated when I needed to feel comfortable and considered at the same time.

Comfort, With Integrity

One of the most meaningful things I hear from customers is that they wore their Hank & Hera pieces throughout IVF, after surgery, during radiation, or in the blur of new motherhood.

These messages mean the world to me because they tell me we're doing what we set out to do: creating pieces that're not only beautiful but also useful. Functional. Dignified. Supportive.

True luxury isn't about extravagance. It's about care. It's about being gentle with yourself, even when the world feels hard.

So if you—or someone you love—is navigating recovery, start with softness. Start with fabrics that honour the body. Start with sleepwear that makes comfort feel like something you don't have to earn.

Because healing is personal. And so is what you wear while you do it.
